Serving is a great way to grow in your relationship with Christ and with others at church.
How? When we serve, we’re laying down our time and our talent to serve others and build up the body of Christ. It’s also a great way to meet more people and get stuck in to life as a church.
Let's take a walk through a Sunday to help you figure out where you might first serve.
First up, the Welcome Team greets you.
If you've visited City Church, you were probably first met and welcomed by this team. We hope we helped make those first few steps into a new church easier for you! As first point of contact for many of our guests, this team sets up tables with welcome packs and relevant info, greets people as they arrive, and helps usher them to their seats. If you have a friendly and outgoing personality and enjoy making people feel welcome, this might be the right fit for you!
Then, you meet the Hospitality Team.
Who doesn't love a good snack? This team might have given you your first coffee or cookie, working to create a welcoming and hospitable environment for all who come to worship at City Church. Catering for most tastes, we prepare and serve tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks, laid out in an inviting way. We also greet and chat to guests, helping to make them feel even more welcome. If you have a heart for hospitality and enjoy serving others, this could be a great team to join.
As you enter the auditorium, the Media/Tech Team will be ready for you...
Our job is to ensure everyone can see, hear and engage in worship with as little distractions as possible – whether they're here in person or watching online. This means running the audio and visual gear, the livestream and cameras, and troubleshooting any issues. If you have a passion for technology and enjoy working behind the scenes, why not give this team a go?
As the service starts, the Music Team leads us in worshipping our amazing God...
Being on the music team is not so much about perfect musicianship or performance. It's more about giving glory to God by helping us all engage with our whole bodies in singing praise and reminding ourselves of who God is and what the good news about Jesus is. For this reason, our band members commit to membership at City Church since it is leading others in worship. So if you have a passion for City Church, for music and for helping others to worship, why not get started on the Membership process?
A little while into the service, our youngest ones go out to their groups...
Our kids work is designed to be a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn about God and develop a personal relationship with him. Each week, our dedicated team of volunteers leads kids in worship, Bible study, and prayer. We use fun and engaging activities to help kids understand important biblical concepts and apply them to their lives. For that reason, our kids team members are committed members and have gone through DBS checks and an interview process to ensure they are supported well in this important task. So if you love working with kids to teach them about Jesus, why not become a member and start serving on the Tots, Kids or Youth teams?
After the service, our Prayer Team is available for you...
We all have struggles, doubts, fears and things we feel anxious or excited about... or even just things to say thanks for. We believe it's vital to come to God with all of this. So the prayer team, also committed members at City Church, will be there after the service and are happy to pray with you and for you. If you love to encourage people in their faith in Jesus through prayer ministry, why not join as a member and get serving in this way?
Once a month, we share in communion or the Lord's Supper and we also regularly have baptisms...
A team of us is in charge of setting our the bread and grape juice/wine and filling and emptying the baptism tank with water. It's great to have a team of strong people to get the tank set up! But no big muscles needed for setting out communion.
